of Contents include: The story is appropriate reading for ages 7 to 12 and the lesson plans may be adapted for grades K-6. Upon first glance, this is a children's fantasy about a dragon statue that transforms into a real liver fire-breathing dragon. Annie's sole purpose is to discover the "barnacle encrusted cave" which lies beneath the river and can only be found by the light of the full moon. Once you are drawn into Annie's quest for the entrance to Dragon Island, you realize it is a beautifully written Space Coast story in a Florida setting and local wildlife. More importantly, it's a story of friendship, growth, transformation, and the reward for perseverance. Author, Diane Carr, and illustrator, John Goldacker, are available for school presentations. Subjects covered will include the history of the dragon, the creation of the story and illustrations, as well as thoughts on writing, imagination, inspiration, and myths. Written on a 5th grade reading level, the book and the "Just Add Kids" lesson plan is available from the author directly or Jawbone Publishing. The book includes a CD with a song and story narration.
